Senior Mechanical Engineer | Building Services | Belfast | £60,000
About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering consultancy, delivering mechanical and building services design across a range of technically challenging projects.
Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their Belfast office, taking responsibility for the design and delivery of projects while working closely with clients and multidisciplinary design teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and self-motivated Mechanical Engineer with strong technical knowledge of building services who is comfortable managing projects and delivering high-quality engineering solutions with minimal supervision.
What You Will Be Doing
- Undertaking mechanical design and consultancy work across a range of building services projects.
- Designing mechanical systems and carrying out associated engineering calculations.
- Producing and reviewing technical drawings, specifications, schedules and reports.
- Providing technical advice and engineering solutions to clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinating with internal and external multidisciplinary design teams.
- Acting as a key point of contact for clients and representing the business at design and project meetings.
- Managing projects to ensure they are delivered to the required quality, programme and cost.
- Reviewing technical information and documentation produced by other members of the engineering team.
- Supporting and mentoring junior and trainee engineers, including reviewing their technical work.
- Undertaking non-intrusive surveys of existing mechanical installations.
- Carrying out plant room and main plant area spatial planning exercises.
- Undertaking project risk assessments to support safe installation and operation in accordance with CDM requirements.
- Maintaining high standards of mechanical design and keeping up to date with developments in building services systems, technology, legislation and industry standards.
- Supporting quality management procedures and ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with relevant ISO and national requirements.
What We Are Looking For
- Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership with CIBSE or IMechE is highly desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical building services design.
- Competency in mechanical design software such as IES.
- Competency in AutoCAD, with a working knowledge of Revit.
- Experience producing and reviewing mechanical calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with internal and external multidisciplinary design teams.
- Experience managing projects and delivering work to programme, quality and cost requirements.
- Ability to undertake surveys of existing installations and assess plant space requirements.
- Good understanding of relevant building services legislation, standards and regulations.
- Strong client-facing, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and priorities.
- Experience reviewing or quality-checking the work of junior engineers would be advantageous.
